Our History

MUST Peer Project is an independent, pioneer and premier peer education project at Mbarara University of Science and Technology (MUST) focusing on ‘Sexuality, Reproductive Health and Life planning skills among young people between 15-29 years of age’.

The project was born out of the SIDA Supported LUMUST (Lund University and Mbarara University of Science and Technology) collaboration students’ exchange program, following the visit to the peer education project at Lund University called “P6”(Project sex) and appreciation of  the sexuality and reproductive Health Challenges among youths at Mbarara University.

The Peer Project was founded by Anette Agardh, now a professor of Global and social medicine ,as well as a lecturer at Lund University in Sweden. Together with the young leaders of Mbarara University of Science and Technology, Anette agreed to set a free and friendly platform to assess the value of peer education, discuss pressing issues of sexuality and reproductive health among University students. The peer project was to be and is a free ground where youths run to find a listening ear with no judgement, a comfort center for the burdened and stressed as well as a home away from home for all campus students. The peer project was designed to be fully run and operated by young people making informed decisions, without influence of the MUST administration.

The project was initially being funded by SIDA through the LUMUST project until December 2010, when the founder and Lund University took over offering support of various kinds.
